Teacher Academy. . . its the end for the class of 2013 !

when i started teacher academy i was encouraged to become a teacher.  i wanted to learn how to be a good teacher but most of all how to be an effective teacher. i wanted to know the do and the donts of being a teacher. how to control your class and how to keep a class in a learning environment. after the year and a half of learning and practising to be a teacher, i have learned all that i wanted. i figured out the do and the dont to be a teacher and how to keep my class in a learning environment. i choose kinder to work with because they seemed muck easier but it really wasnt. kinder was hard, this is the time you teach the students to read, write, spell, talk, and much more. but the experience i had with my kinder students was great. i work with each and every one individually. i worked with regular students, special ed students, and ELL students. its not hard if you try and understand them.

when we did our observation at kobler we got to use what we read and learn with the students. with Harry Wong's first days of schools, i learned how to keep the students attention on me and kept them working. with blooms taxonomy it helped me do activities with my students. like when i had to help teach my students the difference between the sound of the vowels. i used blooms taxonomy to make my students understand how to tell the sound of the vowels apart. with the speech part, i never really had a hard time speaking to them because i always had their attention. the only time it was difficult was when i had to deal with my special ed kids and my ELL students. it just takes time and understanding to make the students understand the works.

doing my student teaching was fun, i had to work one on one time with my students. i taught them lessons, did read-a-louds. when teaching a lesson to the students i tried my best to always keep their attention on me and what i was teaching. i had to explain more on the directions of works, but they understood the work they needed to do. i also did read alouds, sometimes the students choose a book, sometimes i choose the book. but when i did my read aloud i brought my own book and i read to them. after reading the book i asked them questions about the book and i made them do an activity after. they enjoyed the activities we did, but most of all the like sharing what they drew and wrote. the hard times i had with my student teaching was when i had to just deal with the special ed studetns. sometimes its hard to explain things to them, and sometimes you have to change how you do your activvities for them but its the only way for them to understand and for them to do the activity. but when i start to teach my own class i would want to spend more time with my special ed studetns and my ELL students, its not that they need most of my attention but they just need more guidance and assistance with doing works.

with my mentor teacher we had a good teacher-student relationship, we helped each other with the activities and with lessons. she would take the advance learners and i would work with the behind students. but most of the time we teach the class in a whole group. but since i had two mentors i had to work with much more things. the second mentor teacher i had was a bit impatient. she would yell to the students or scare the students. but  i always tried to help her with the students that needed more help. but other than that i got along with both my mentors.

Mrs.Torres, you dont need to improve the program, its fine the way it is. everything we learned from you was very useful and unforgettable. everything i learned from you will follow me through out my teaching life. you taught us how to be effective teachers, you advised us on what to do and what not to do while teaching and that has really helped us all. at the beginning we were ashame to be around each other. but look now we are one big teacher academy family. thanks to you we had a great year and a half experience on how to become a teacher.

and lastly, this class was the best class we had. we all started as strangers but them became a family. we are and forever will be your first TEACHER ACADEMY family. i will miss this class the most, all the memories we had will be with me forever. especially when we had our breakfast parties, LOL :) but really this class has taught me alot, alot for me to take into my teaching year. Mrs.Torres nothing can ever change the way you helped me to strive to be a teacher. at first i didnt think i want to be a teacher, but you taught us that teachers are the holders of the future. and like Mrs.Lynn said were not only teachers, but were also a police officer, a doctor, a counsellor, a lawyer, but we will always be a teacher. i hope that one day ill be as good of a teacher as you were. thanks again for all that you have taught me and my fellow TA classmates, when we graduate with out bachelors degree in education we have you to thank for.

to my fellow graduates of the class of 2013 Teacher Academy class, WE DID IT ! we finally made it through our year and a half of teaching. now we are about to step into the real world and become future teachers of the CNMI. i wish you all the best with the rest of your life, and hope to see you teaching here on saipan in a few years. just remember we are a family and will always be a family , ill miss you guys all :)

&& to my fellow 2014 Teacher Academy class, you made it through the first half of your teaching career. everything you will learn next will be with on hands activity. so listen good, take notes, and of course have fun with your student teaching. this is a great oppurtunity you have and i hope that you will all become future teachers of the NMI too. take care, have fun, and remember WE ARE A FAMILY !

experience so far with your student teaching. What has improved, did you see any self-growth? What have you applied from what you learned in this class? Is there anything new that your mentor teacher learned from you?

so far we did a full month of student teaching and observation. now working with the same students and the same teacher is much better. i know all the students names and i feel more comfortable around them. working with the stuents is great, they know when to ask for help and they know how to figure things out on their own. the students may depend on me sometimes for help but i encourage them to figure things out on their own before they ask me.

lately i help mrs.guerrero with the students , i teach some lessons, and i do alot of read aloud and sometimes test the students with reading. when working with the students individualy they tend to be more independent with the work they have. some students know how to read and some have a little hard time with reading. i tell them to try and sound out the letters to figure out the word but if they still dont get it we go over it as a group or as a class.

i have a total of 13 student a day. its not much but when teaching them all at one time is a bit hard cause their little kids they tend to doze off at times. but other than that working with them is pretty easy and fun. the students enjoy story time on the carpet, they all are listening and reading along with the book.

since i started my student teaching the class has been working on sight words, the vowel sounds, and counting 1 to a 100. the sight words are only 10 words, the students write them 3 times to remember the word and remember to spell them. they sometimes get mixed up with the words and tend to write the letters backwords but atleast they know the word. with math the students learn to count to a 100. they do worksheets on remembering the numbers. they play games to remember how to count by tens. the students learn vowels and their long and short sounds. we gave them worksheets to see which picture had the short or long vowel sound. the studetns understand but get a bit mixed up with some sounds. cause some have the same sounds, but we try to help them tell the difference between them.

overall i love my student teaching. my students are great and fun to work with. they may doze of sometimes but i know how to get their attention back.

CTIW: cues, questions, & organizers, cooperative learning, non-lingustic representation

ques, questions and organizers
for this chapter we went over ques, questions, and organizers. A cue is a hint to students about what the lesson would be about. They reinforce information that students already know and provide new information on the lesson. questions are asked to see what the students have learn in previous lessons. organizers help students search for topics that are going to be learned. for this lesson our activity was about numbers. we learned about even and odd numbers. we also did a worksheet on odd and even numbers which gave us a little idea of what we were going to learn.

cooperative learning
Cooperative learning is a method of instruction that has students working together in groups, usually with the goal of completing a specific task. this provides opportunities for students to interact in ways that can make their learning better. it also gives students an environment for the students to understand their lessons they learned. there are 5 elements for cooperative learning:
Positive Interdependence, Face-to-Face Promotive Interaction, Individual and Group Accountability, Interpersonal and Small-Group Skills, Group Processing. our activity for this lesson was to write some things about ourself and recite them to our classmates so that they would be comfortable around us and so that they didnt think we are strangers.

nonlinguistic representation
for this chapter we learned about noningustic representation, which also means that the imagery expressed as mental pictures or physical sensations. it provides students with tools that will make their learning in the classroom better and undertandable. some ways to instruct nonlingustic representations is to create graphic organizers, make physical models, generate mental pictures, make illustrations, and engage in kinestetic activities. for our activity they gave us words to draw about. like the word beautiful, super, and danger. so i drew a flower for beautiful, superman for super and a gun for danger.

feedback: CITW stratiges

Similaraties && Differences
for similarities and differences we learned how to figure out the similarities and differences of a topic. like when we compared private school and public schools of how both schools were different and alike. they usualy use this to tell two things apart and how they are the same. until now i still use
this method to do some of my works. especially foe science, we compare alot of things.
comparing:comparing two or more topics
classifying: classify the topic to simple details
metaphors:figure of speech to an object or action
analogies: compare different things to show they are related to each other.

Setting Ojectives
setting objectives is the best way for students to learn how to do something and make it a routine. setting objectives also mean to make rules that the students will learn to follow and then later be good at doing it. it is important because with out setting objectives the students wouldnt know where to find things or where to put things after being used. if all teachers set objectives for their class, the students will be effective learners and great followers. most elementary classes set objectives so that when the student gets older they know what to do and how to do them.

Reinforcement Efforts && Providing Recognition

for this objective we thought the students the ways of reinforcing effort and the two ways of providing recognition. for reinforcing effort the key goal is to practice procedures and they will become routine. for providing recognition there is 2 way to do so. the first is a small reward for completing a job.for example pencils or stickers, there small yet rewarding. and the second would be to give verbal phrases fro completing a task. for example saying good job, well done, or way to go .

top 10 use of twitter . && your followers on twitter :)

my top ten uses of twitter would be....
-i can be updated if we have any work for any class
-if i need help i can teet about it and others can tweet back on it
-i can share what i read or watch with others who like the same things as me
-get sime feedback from classmates about our class observations
-share about events that are coming up
-share ideas and notes about other classes
-collaborate with other students about similar topics
-you can follow your classmates on asignments
-look for updates on the other side of the world
-connet with colleges you want to attend and be updated about everything

on twitter i followed three people that were doing student teachig. i followed
Marissa Alcorn@MarissaAlcorn,
 Ashley Lindsey @ashleylindsey26,
 Tanner Nix @TannerNix
all three of them find education a good experience. i found them by searching for student teaching and read some of their tweets. Tanner Nix posted on twitter "Children are proof that unsaved people are often the sweetest.  ". i followed Marissa Alcorn because she is currently a teacher and she teaches 8th grade, she enjoys her students and having to teach them new things. she quotes on twitter "So excited to see my 8th graders again! ".

Observation: Bloom's Taxonomy in a classroom .

yesterday we did an observation on classes we choose. we had to look what types of Blooms Taxonomy where the classes used. i had observed a kindergarden class of Ms.Guerrero. her class only had seven students present but a total of twelve students in her class. although her class was a small class she still manages to make her class look colorfull and a learning place.

when i walked in to observe they were going over their sight words. the students used the method og knowledge and application. as a class they reviewed their sight words. they all had a chance to go up to the board and read the sight words out loud to the class. the recited the spelling of each sight words and could identify wjat the words are on their own.

some of the students were not focus but the teacher had managed for all of them to pay attention to when it came to their turn to read each sight words out loud. after they were all done reciting and reading each sight word they used pictures to add their sight words together. i think that was a good way for the students to remember and understand the word and its spelling.

our next observation will be us reading to the students a book their teacher has choosen. we are to create an activity after reading the book and would have the teacher's evaluation on how we had did.

who, what, where, when is the article about ? Bloom's Taxonomy

the article is about Benjamin Bloom, where he identifies the three domains of learning.
  • Cognitive: mental skills (knowledge)
  • Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (attitude)
  • Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (skills)
domains can be thought in categories such as KSA ( knowledge, skills, attitude). these behaviors are also thought as "the goals of the learning process" after the learner has acquired new skills, knowledge, and attitudes. then the three domains are divided into subdivisions, from the smallest behvior to the harder behaviors. Bloom's explanation of the three domain is the most understood and applied work use today.

the cognitive domain involves knowledge and the development of intelectual skills. they include recognition of specific facts, procedural patterns, and deelopment of intellectual abilities and skills.

  • knowledge: recall data or information
  • comprehension: understand the meaning and translation of instructions and problems.
  • application: apply what is learn in the classroom into life and your surroundings.
  • analysis: understand the difference between facts and inferences
  • synthesis: builds a structure or pattern from different elements
  • evaluation: judgments made about value of ideas or materials
Affective Domain
include manners in which we deal with things emotionally. such as feelings, values, appreciation, enthusiasms, motivations, and attitude.
  • recieving phenomena: awareness, willingness to hear, or selected attention
  • responding to phenomena: attends and reacts to a particular phenomena
  • valuing: the worth or value a person attaches to a particular object or behavior
  • organization: organize values into priorities by contrasting values, resolving conflicts, and creating unique value system.
  • internalizing values: has a value system that controls their behavior
Psychomotor Domain
include physical movement, coordination, and use of motor skills in areas. these skills require practice and is measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution.
  • perception: ability to use sensory cues to guide motor activity
  • set: readiness to act
  • guided responses: stage where you learn complex skills that include imitation and trial and error
  • mechanism: learned skills become habits and the movements can be performed with confidence and proficiency
  • complex overt responses: skillful performances of motor acts that involve complex movement patterns
  • adaption: skills are well developed and the individual can modify movement patterns to fit special requierments
  • origination: creating new movement patterns to fit a particular situation or specific problem
Bloom's Revised Taxonomy
  • remembering: recall previous learned information
  • understanding: understand the meaning and translation of insturctions and problems
  • applying: apply what you have learn into classrooms and situations in the work place
  • analyzing: seperate material and concepts into component parts so it is organized and understood
  • evaluating: make decisions about the value of ideas or matrials
  • creating: put parts together to form a whole with creating a new meaning or structure

in my english class we have journal writing time and them we share after. i think doing journal sharing is an affective domain, becuase we share our values and our feelings and thoughts with eachother. but mostly because my fellow classmates take the time to listen to people read their journals and become an affective domain learner.
